Hinotsu Neo Glow Squid Hook — Size #2.5 / #3.0

The Neo Glow is an egi — the cast-and-jerk shrimp jig — rather than a sutte, the plain barrel bait that hangs off a vertical dropper rig. It is built the traditional way: a soft cloth-covered body over a reflective scale pattern, giving both the texture a squid expects when it pulls the lure in and the flash that pulls it in from a distance. A balanced lead sinker holds the jig in a stable posture through the drop at a consistent speed, which is the single thing that decides whether a squid commits on the fall. A UV-glow finish, a bright side stripe and feather fins add visibility and movement through lifts, jerks and pauses, and a double-tier crown hook holds tentacles once they close. Sizes #2.5 and #3.0 cover different squid sizes, depths and fall speeds.

Key Features

  • Soft cloth exterior for a natural texture squid will hold onto
  • UV-glow body finish with a reflective scale pattern and high-visibility side stripe
  • Balanced lead sinker for a stable posture and controlled, consistent drop speed
  • Feather fins that flutter on lifts and pauses
  • Sharp double-tier crown hook system
  • Two sizes, #2.5 and #3.0, in nine colour finishes

How To Fish It

  • Sink count to the layer — Cast and let the jig drop on a controlled slack line while counting seconds, adding five each cast. When a squid comes, repeat that exact count. Squid stack in layers and the count is how you go back to one.
  • Shakuri jerk and glide — Rod tip low, snap it upward two or three times in quick succession so the jig darts, then drop the tip and let it glide back for several seconds under a gentle bow. The jerks call squid in; the fall is what they take.
  • Never strike — Squid hug the jig with their arms rather than biting. When the line stops falling, goes light or slides sideways, sweep smoothly into the weight — a hard hookset pulls the tentacles apart.
  • Wind under constant tension — Keep the rod loaded and wind slow and even all the way up. Do not pump the rod; that slack is the usual reason squid drop off at the surface.
  • UV and glow at night — UV finishes reflect the ultraviolet light already in the water and work without charging, including in daylight at depth. Glow must be charged under a lamp or torch and then fades, so recharge between casts. Under lights, work the jig along the dark edge of the lit water where squid wait.

Target Species By Region

  • Southeast Asia — Bigfin reef squid (sotong torak) and cuttlefish (sotong katak) on candat sotong nights off Terengganu, Pahang and Johor, plus jetty and breakwater squid under harbour lights.
  • North America — Market squid off California piers and lit harbours from Monterey to San Diego.
  • Japan & East Asia — Aoriika on shore eging in the #2.5 and #3.0 sizes, kensaki-ika on boat drifts; the same jigs are used in Korea and Taiwan.
  • Australia, Middle East & Europe — Southern calamari and cuttlefish over seagrass in South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania; European squid and cuttlefish on Mediterranean eging marks.
