Hayabusa Squid Junky Otonarun SR405 Dropper Sutte 60 mm / 75 mm

The Otonarun is an appeal-type dropper sutte from Hayabusa's Squid Junky range, built for offshore ika-metal fishing rather than casting. It is not an egi: it hangs on the short branch line above a weighted metal sutte and does the attracting while the metal does the sinking. Hayabusa build it around two triggers at once — an internal rattle that puts sound into the water when visibility is poor or the light has gone, and a small-baitfish silhouette that works on the squid's predatory instinct. The body hangs horizontally rather than nose-down, the posture squid find easiest to wrap their arms around, and the hook crown sits clear of the main line so the dropper does not tangle the leader on the drop.

Key Features

  • Appeal-type dropper sutte for ika-metal rigs, fished on the branch line
  • Internal rattle for sound attraction in murky water and at night
  • Small-baitfish silhouette that holds a horizontal posture at rest
  • Hook crown held clear of the main line to cut tangles on the fall
  • 60 mm single crown at 4.4 g; 75 mm double crown at 6.6 g
  • Eight colours, including two UV finishes

How To Fish It

  • Rig it on the branch, not the bottom — Clip it to the dropper arm of a pre-tied ika-metal leader, roughly 40–60 cm above the metal sutte that carries the rig down. The metal finds the depth; the Otonarun hangs level in that layer and takes squid that will not commit to a bare metal body.
  • Lift, drop, then hold still — Lift the rod 30–50 cm to work the rattle, lower under control, then stop dead for several seconds. The rattle only speaks on the lift, so the order matters: make noise, then leave a motionless target.
  • Squid hug, they do not bite — There is no thump; the rig goes heavy, goes light, or stops sinking. All three are takes.
  • Never strike — Lean into the weight and wind steadily rather than swinging the rod. The fine crown points hold only while the line stays loaded.
  • Work the shadow line — Under boat or jetty lamps, fish the edge where the beam meets the dark rather than the middle of the glare.

Choosing 60 mm Or 75 mm

  • 60 mm, 4.4 g, single crown — The finesse choice: smaller silhouette for clear water, slack tide and smaller squid, and a lighter body that hangs naturally on a light dropper arm.
  • 75 mm, 6.6 g, double crown — The louder profile for stained water, running tide and larger squid. The second crown covers the rear of the body, which matters when squid grab the tail end rather than the head.

Target Species By Region

  • Southeast Asia — Sotong on night candat sotong boats off Terengganu, Pahang and Kelantan: bigfin reef squid (sotong torak) and mitre squid, plus cuttlefish over sand and rubble.
  • North America — Market squid on West Coast night boats under deck lights, longfin squid over Atlantic sand edges.
  • Japan & East Asia — The method it was designed for: kensaki-ika, yari-ika and surume-ika on ika-metal and omorig boats.
  • Australia, Middle East & Europe — Southern calamari off Australian jetties and reef edges, squid and cuttlefish on Gulf marks, European squid over Mediterranean sand banks.

Specifications

Size Weight Hook Crown Colours SKU Prefix
60 mm 4.4 g Single layer #1 – #8 341SR40560
75 mm 6.6 g Double layer #1, #2, #4, #5 341SR40575

Colours: #1 Red Head, #2 Red Green, #3 Red Chartreuse, #4 Green Chartreuse, #5 Orange Brown, #6 Blue, #7 UV Dark Blue, #8 UV Yellow. SKU is the prefix plus the colour digit — 341SR405601 is 60 mm, #1 Red Head.

Recommended Pairing

  • Ika-metal or light boat rod with a soft solid tip — the tip is how you see a squid arrive
  • PE 0.4–0.8 braid on a 2000–2500 spinning reel or small baitcaster, with an 8–16 lb fluorocarbon leader
  • A pre-tied 1-way or 2-way ika-metal leader, weighted metal sutte at the bottom position
  • Keep the drag light and smooth; a locked drag tears the arms at the surface
