Hayabusa Assist Hook 133 Tin — Single / Double (EX400 / EX401 / EX402 / EX403), Made In Japan

A finished assist hook for metal jigs, built on Hayabusa's 133 hook pattern with a curved shank and a long tapered point. A super anti-rust tin coating resists corrosion in salt water and helps the point stay sharp through a session. The assist components use strong, firm braided line that keeps the hook from tangling around the main line and holds it tight to the jig body for a better hook-up ratio. Attach it to the eye of the jig and the hook sits where a fish attacking the head will find it. EX400 is the single; EX401, EX402 and EX403 are doubles with 0.5 cm, 1.0 cm and 2.0 cm assist lengths, so reach can be tuned to the jig. All four run from #1 through #6/0.

Key Features

  • Hayabusa 133 hook pattern, curved shank with a long tapered point
  • Super anti-rust tin coating for corrosion resistance
  • Firm braided assist cord, tangle-free and held tight to the jig
  • Single (EX400) and double (EX401 / EX402 / EX403) configurations
  • Three double-assist lengths: 0.5 cm, 1.0 cm and 2.0 cm
  • Seven sizes per model, #1 to #6/0
  • Suits all types of metal jig — vertical, speed and slow pitch
  • Made in Japan

How To Rig It

  • Attach at the jig eye — Connect the assist to the jig eye through a solid ring and a heavy split ring. Cord bearing directly on a split-ring seam is the usual cause of assist failure.
  • Front or rear — Nose mounting is standard for vertical and speed jigging, where fish attack the head of a rising jig. Rear, or front and rear, suits slow pitch, where the jig falls flat.
  • Pick the assist length for the jig — The 0.5 cm double (EX401) keeps both points tight to the body, the cleanest option on small narrow jigs. The 1.0 cm (EX402) is the general-purpose length. The 2.0 cm (EX403) gives more reach on wide, long jigs, at the cost of wrapping the leader more often on the drop.
  • Single or double — The double converts more half-hearted swipes when fish follow rather than commit. The single (EX400) fouls far less on rock, rope and leader, so keep it for foul ground and for jigs already carrying a rear treble.
  • Match hook size to jig size — The gape should look proportionate to the width of the jig body: #1–#1/0 on light and micro jigs, #2/0–#3/0 on mid-weight jigs, #4/0–#6/0 on heavy jigs. Check the point after every fish and after any contact with structure.

Target Species By Region

  • Southeast Asia — Reef and wreck jigging for gerepoh (giant trevally), tenggiri (Spanish mackerel), ikan merah (red snapper) and kerapu (grouper) off Rompin, Sabah and eastern Indonesia.
  • North America — Amberjack, grouper and snapper on Gulf and Atlantic wrecks; yellowtail and lingcod on Pacific jigging trips.
  • Japan & East Asia — Buri and hiramasa on vertical and speed jigging, madai and kasago on slow pitch, and tachiuo at night.
  • Australia, Middle East & Europe — Yellowtail kingfish and samson fish on Australian reefs; cobia and queenfish in the Gulf; pollack and cod on European wrecks.
