The Anglar Round Chinu 2X Hook Pack Ringed 4159 NSB

Chinu is the Japanese name for black sea bream, and the chinu hook was shaped around how that fish feeds — a small, hard mouth that mouths and inspects a bait before committing. It has since become one of the most borrowed shapes in Asian bait fishing. The 4159 is the heavy-duty member of that family: a round chinu bend, deeper and more circular than the standard pattern, which leaves more room for a whole prawn or a chunk of cut bait and spreads the load evenly through the wire during a long fight. Behind it sits 2X-strong wire — one gauge heavier than standard for the same size — and a forged bend, so the hook resists opening when a big fish turns on a tight drag. The eye is turned up and ringed; the point is offset and kirbed in, angled toward the centre of the hook so it meets jawbone at an angle instead of sliding along it. Chemically sharpened, black nickel finished.

This Round Chinu 4159 is the strong one: same feeding logic, rounder bend, 2X wire, black nickel salt-water finish, for when the presentation has to survive a snapper, a grouper or a big pond catfish. How To Rig It

• Running sinker on the bottom — Egg sinker above a swivel, then 60–100 cm of leader. Let the sinker run free, and do not strike early: let the rod load as the fish turns and the kirbed-in point sets against the jaw.
• Float rig along walls and rock — Sliding float to a stopper, short trace, baited with prawn, crab or shellfish, drifted down a breakwater or jetty face.
• Pond rig (kolam pancing) — Snell or knot to a short trace under a small float or light running lead, fishing paste, pellet, bread or prawn on the bottom. The 2X wire is the point of the exercise here — pond patin and catfish will open a light hook.
• Baiting with prawn — Thread a peeled prawn from the tail up the shank so the point exits near the head; on a live prawn, pass the point through the horn on the head, in front of the dark spot behind the eyes.

Target Species By Region

• Southeast Asia — Snapper (merah), golden snapper (jenahak), grouper (kerapu) and barramundi (siakap) from jetties and inshore boats; patin, jelawat and keli in the paid ponds of Malaysia and Thailand.
• North America — Sheepshead, black drum, tautog and porgy around bridge pilings on shrimp and crab, where the heavier wire survives structure.
• Japan & East Asia — Its home fishery: kurodai and kibire from breakwaters and rocky shores, plus madai and larger mejina where a standard-wire chinu hook is outgunned.
• Australia, Middle East & Europe — Bream, snapper and mulloway in Australian estuaries; hamour and sheri in the Gulf; gilthead bream and wrasse on European harbour walls.

Specifications

Finish: black nickel. Sizes follow the Japanese gō (号) system — the number rises as the hook gets larger, the reverse of Western numbering. #1 is the smallest here, #14 the largest.
