DUEL EZ-Q Cast Rattle 2.5" 75mm Squid Jig A1690
The EZ-Q is DUEL's core egi series, and the Cast Rattle is the shore-casting member of it with a rattle chamber added. An egi is a weighted, cloth-wrapped shrimp that is cast, sunk on a counted line, then made to dart sideways with sharp snaps of the rod. What separates this model from a plain casting egi is sound: coloured rattle balls sealed in the body knock on every jerk, imitating the click a prawn makes as it flicks away from a predator. That is a third signal on top of shape and flash, and it reaches furthest when water is coloured, deep or moving. The 75mm #2.5 body is the standard shore size — small enough for pressured jetty squid, heavy enough to cast into a working breeze.
Key Features
- Coloured rattle balls inside the body imitate the sound of an escaping shrimp
- Segmented abdomen generates strong wave motion to draw squid in from a distance
- UV-treated body finish for high visual appeal in daylight and stained water
- UV glow feet that vibrate under water resistance, adding movement even on the pause
- Y2 crown hook arrangement for wide contact when a squid wraps the body
- Model A1690, size #2.5 at 75mm, in eight colour codes
How To Fish It
- Cast and count the fall — Let the jig sink on a controlled slack line, counting seconds. Start at five, add two each cast until you contact squid or bottom, then repeat that count.
- Shakuri jerk cadence — Rod tip low, snap upward two to four times so the jig darts and the rattle knocks, then stop dead. Squid take on the fall, never on the jerk; the pause is what catches them.
- Use the rattle where it earns its keep — Sound carries in murky water, after rain, at depth and in run-out tide. In flat, clear water on a heavily fished jetty a rattle can put wary squid off, so carry a silent egi as well and switch if you get follows without takes.
- Never strike — A squid hugs the jig with its arms rather than biting. If the line stops falling, twitches or drifts sideways, sweep into the weight and wind under unbroken tension; pumping the rod creates slack and the squid lets go.
- Fish the shadow line — Charge the UV glow panels with a torch, then work the dark edge of a light pool rather than the bright centre, where squid sit and ambush.
Target Species By Region
- Southeast Asia — Candat sotong for bigfin reef squid (sotong torak) and cuttlefish (sotong katak) from jetties, breakwaters and fishing platforms in Terengganu, Pahang and Johor, and off boats working the lights.
- North America — Market squid jigged down the pilings at lit California piers and harbour walls through the night.
- Japan & East Asia — Shore eging for aoriika, with #2.5 the usual autumn size for the year's smaller squid; also fished in Korea and Taiwan.
- Australia, Middle East & Europe — Southern calamari over seagrass in South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania; European squid and cuttlefish on Mediterranean and Atlantic night marks.

Recommended Pairing
- Egi rod of roughly 8' to 8'6" rated for #2.5–3.5 jigs, with a fast tip that loads on the snap
- 2500–3000 spinning reel with PE 0.5–0.8 braid; high-visibility braid is far easier to read at night
- Fluorocarbon leader of roughly 8–14 lb, about a rod length
- Long-handled squid net — lifting a squid on barbless crown hooks alone tears them free
