The Hardcore LG Sinking Pencil belongs to Duel's Light Game series, built for the finesse end of inshore fishing where a 4g lure has to be cast a long way and then worked in the top 30cm of the water column. It is a lipless sinking pencil: no bib, no wobble, just a darting slide driven by rod input rather than water pressure on a lip. That matters when fish have refused a minnow: smaller profile, less regular action, no lip flash. Duel fits a magnetic weight transfer system with a 20 percent stronger magnet than the previous generation, which is what lets a 50mm, 4g body reach 40m into wind. Rated to a working range of 0 to 30cm, it holds the band shore anglers actually fish.

How To Fish It

• Slow steady retrieve — Cast, count one to three seconds, then wind slowly and evenly. At 4g the lure tracks just under the surface and holds that band as long as the retrieve stays constant.
• Twitch and slide — Two short rod-tip twitches, then a half-turn of the handle, makes the lure dart left and right. Keep the twitches soft; a hard jerk kills the slide.
• Count-down and lift — In deeper harbour corners let it sink further, then use a slow lift-and-drop. Bites come on the fall, so keep contact through the drop.
• Shadow edges — Fish the dark side of a jetty or bridge light, casting into the shadow and retrieving into the lit water where fish ambush.
