The Anglar Single Plug Hook Pack NSB 4176 Fishing Hook

The 4176 (S-61 Single Hook SW) is a lure hook, not a bait hook: a strong, chemically sharpened single made to replace the trebles on plugs, spoons and other hard baits. Anglers make that swap for better hook-up-to-landing ratios, less damage to fish, faster unhooking and far fewer tangles in nets and mats — and in a growing number of fisheries because singles are required. The bend is forged and wide-gap, giving clearance around a bulky lure body and strength through the load. The point is a chemically sharpened needle set kirbed-in, slightly offset toward the shank, so it bites early as the hook turns. The eye is a solid ring for a split ring, snap or heavy leader, and the shank runs straight so pull from the tow point transfers directly through the hook. Black nickel finish, SW (saltwater) specification.

Key Features

  • Single-hook replacement for treble-equipped plugs, minnows and spoons
  • Forged wide-gap bend — clearance around bulky lure bodies, resistance to opening
  • Kirbed-in point, offset toward the shank for early contact and holding power
  • Chemically sharpened needle point with a sharp retaining barb
  • Strong solid ringed eye for split rings, snaps and heavy leader, on a straight shank
  • Black-nickel finish, saltwater-oriented SW specification
  • Four sizes: #2, #1/0, #3/0 and #5/0

4176 or S-75M 4508? Both are Anglar lure singles and they cover different ground. The S-75M 4508 has an in-line point set straight with the eye, 2X wire, and runs #6 to #2/0 — the finer, smaller-lure choice for 50–140 mm minnows, micro jigs and light spinning. This 4176 is the heavier pattern: wide-gap forged bend, kirbed-in point and sizes up to #5/0, for large plugs, stickbaits, poppers and heavy spoons in salt water. Pick the 4508 when the lure is small and the wire has to sit inside a tight swim action; pick this one when the fish, not the lure, is the limiting factor.

How To Rig It

  • Converting a lure — Open the split rings with proper pliers and fit a single of similar gape to the treble you removed. One at the belly hanger and one at the tail is standard; tail only on a lure that fouls its own line.
  • Point direction — Hang the belly hook with the point facing forward toward the nose and the tail hook with the point facing up. This keeps the point clear of the lure body and improves the hook-up angle on a following fish.
  • Check the action before you fish — A single weighs less than the treble it replaced. Swim the lure boatside; if it rolls, sits nose-high or loses its wobble, go up a split ring size or one hook size to restore the balance.
  • Spoons, metals and assists — On a casting spoon a single at the tail runs cleaner than a treble and rarely fouls the line; the heavy ring eye and forged bend also suit tying onto assist cord for shore jigging.

Target Species By Region

  • Southeast Asia — Casting plugs and jigs for barramundi (siakap), giant snakehead (toman) and hampala barb (sebarau); queenfish, trevally, Spanish mackerel (tenggiri) and grouper (kerapu) from jetties and inshore boats.
  • North America — Striped bass, bluefish and false albacore on plugs and metals; pike, muskie and large bass on jerkbaits and spoons; redfish and snook inshore.
  • Japan & East Asia — Standard practice on seabass (suzuki) minnows and shore jigging plugs for hiramasa, buri and kanpachi.
  • Australia, Middle East & Europe — Barramundi, mulloway and giant trevally on hard bodies in northern Australia; queenfish on Gulf flats; pike, zander and cod in Europe, where singles are often preferred or mandated.

#1/0 10 417601
#3/0 8 417603

Recommended Pairing

  • #2 and #1/0 for 70–110 mm minnows, small poppers and casting spoons on light to medium spinning tackle, 15–30 lb braid
  • #3/0 and #5/0 for 120 mm and larger plugs, stickbaits, poppers and heavy metals on medium-heavy to heavy tackle, 40–80 lb braid
