The Anglar Minnow Jighead 7g / 10g / 14g / 18g / 28g Soft Plastic Lure Head

The Anglar Tournament Class Minnow Jig Head is the heavy end of the range: a moulded, painted head for rigging large soft-plastic minnows, shads and swimbaits. The fish-shaped head, moulded eye and bright fluorescent finish give the front of the lure a baitfish profile of its own rather than a bare lead nose, and the weight carries a big body on the cast and holds it stable on the drop. A forged, needle-sharp barbed hook does the work on the strike, and a stepped lure keeper grips the plastic so it does not bunch or slide down the shank. The manufacturer's product graphics describe the hook as stainless steel for improved corrosion and rust resistance.

Which Anglar head do you need? Its sister product, the Bullet Minnow Jighead, runs 1.4 g to 14 g on #6 to #3/0 hooks with a plain streamlined bullet nose — a light-tackle head for 2–5″ plastics. This one starts where the useful part of that range ends: painted head, moulded eye, #4/0 and #6/0 hooks, up to 28 g. At the 7 g and 10 g weights they overlap, and the hook size decides. A 3–4″ shad needs the smaller gape of the bullet head; a 5–7″ swimbait needs the #4/0 or #6/0 here, or the point sits buried in plastic and never reaches the fish.

How To Fish It

• Slow roll — Count the head down, then wind steadily just fast enough to feel the paddle tail working. The standard retrieve over drop-offs, channel edges and submerged structure.
• Lift and flutter — Sweep the rod up, then follow the lure down on a controlled line. The weighted head gives a horizontal, wounded-baitfish fall; takes register as a tick or as line that stops early.
• Vertical jigging — The 18 g and 28 g heads fish straight down beside pylons, wrecks and reef edges in current, where a lighter head is swept off the mark.
• Rigging the plastic — Enter at the nose, thread it straight against the collar and bring the point out on the centre line of the back. A body rigged off-centre will spin on the retrieve.
• Choosing the weight — 7–10 g for shallow flats and slack water; 14 g for general work in current or wind; 18–28 g for deep water, hard tide and casting into a breeze.

• Southeast Asia — Barramundi (siakap), giant snakehead (toman) and mangrove jack around jetties, river mouths and reservoir timber; grouper (kerapu), golden snapper (jenahak), queenfish and trevally on the heavier heads over inshore reef.
• North America — Striped bass, redfish, snook and big flounder inshore; pike and muskie on swimbaits in fresh water.
• Japan & East Asia — Seabass (suzuki) around harbour walls and river mouths; hirame and mako-garei off sand, and hata (grouper) on rocky bottom with the 18 g and 28 g heads.

Hook sizes use Western numbering, where 6/0 is larger than 4/0. Not every hook size is offered in every weight — select the combination from the list above.

Recommended Pairing

• 7–14 g on #4/0: medium spinning or baitcasting rod, 3000–4000 reel, PE 1.0–1.5 braid, 20–30 lb fluorocarbon leader, 4–5″ paddle tails
• 18–28 g on #6/0: medium-heavy rod, 4000–5000 reel, PE 1.5–2.5 braid, 30–50 lb leader, 5–7″ swimbaits and shads
• Pair the fluorescent yellow head with natural baits in stained water, pink in deep or low light
• Add a short wire trace where toothy species are present, and rinse in fresh water after salt use
