American Tackle Ring Lock A Frame Guide SS Black Chrome Dura Ring 64DBRLA

This is the black chrome, Dura ring version of the 64 Ring Lock A frame. The frame is the working part: two feet angle up and meet at a shared apex, forming a triangle that will not fold to one side. A single-foot guide only has to survive the plane the rod bends in; an A frame is built for the moments the load arrives from somewhere else — a fish cutting under the hull, a heavy sinker swinging on the drop. The two feet also sit apart on the blank, feeding the pull into the rod at two points instead of one. Dura is American Tackle's harder-wearing ring material, positioned in the product line against the lighter Nano ring; that is how the maker tiers the range, not a measured comparison. Ring Lock is the patented seat (US Patent D627,032), a pressure-fit ring in an enlarged glue reservoir.

How To Build With It

  • Choose the finish for the build — Mechanically this is the same A frame as the chrome 64DCRLA. Pick black chrome when the blank, thread and reel seat are dark, or when glare over clear shallow water is a nuisance.
  • File both feet properly — Each foot needs a long, thin taper so thread climbs on without a step. Check for rocking before wrapping; an A frame that rocks will hold epoxy unevenly.
  • Layout for a side-loaded rod — On a boat or heavy shore build, start at 25 or 30 mm, step through 20 and 16 mm over the first third of the blank, then hold 12, 10, 8 and 6 mm out to the tip.
  • Static test and finish — Tape the train, hang a weight from the tip and move guides until the line follows the bend. Seal with two thin coats of epoxy.

  • Southeast Asia — Boat and jetty builds for barramundi (siakap), queenfish, trevally and grouper, plus heavy toman rods worked around timber where side pressure is constant.
  • North America — Musky, striped bass and catfish boat rods, plus inshore redfish and black drum builds.
  • Japan & East Asia — Shore jigging and light popping blanks, and boat rods for madai and hata where the fish runs under the boat.
