Tilix UV Ultra Violet Egi Aurora 15g / 19g Squid Jig

The Tilix UV Aurora is a sinking egi built around reflected light rather than stored light. Its aurora-style multicolour cloth throws shifting flashes as the jig turns, and the UV-reactive finish returns ultraviolet wavelengths, which travel further through water than visible colour — so the jig keeps showing up in daylight, in deep water and in stained or plankton-heavy water where a plain painted body goes flat. That is the practical difference from a glow egi: UV needs ambient ultraviolet light to work on, so it is strongest from first light through the day and in murky water, while a luminous body must be charged and then shines by itself in the dark. The ultra-slim nose darts sideways on a rod snap like a fleeing prawn, and a heavy hexagonal belly sinker holds a controlled, rolling fall. An internal tungsten weight adds vibration and sound on the drop, behind a large 3D eye, feather trim and twin rows of stainless crown hooks.

Key Features

  • Sinking squid jig in two sizes: 3.0" at 15g and 3.5" at 19g
  • UV-reactive finish for visibility in daylight, deep water and stained water
  • Aurora-style multicolour cloth for shifting reflective flashes
  • Ultra-slim nose for sharp darting on a rod snap; heavy hexagonal sinker for a controlled, rolling fall
  • Internal tungsten weight adding vibration and underwater sound
  • Twin rows of stainless crown hooks and natural feather trim

How To Fish It

  • Cast and count the sink — Let the jig fall on a controlled slack line while counting seconds. These bodies are heavy for their size and drop quickly, so start short, add two seconds each cast until you find the layer holding squid, then repeat that count every time.
  • Shakuri (whipping) cadence — Rod tip low, snap sharply upward two to four times so the jig darts and the cloth flashes, then stop dead and let it fall. Squid take on the fall, not the jerk; the pause is what catches them.
  • Read the slack line — Drop the tip after each jerk series and hold only a gentle bow. If the line stops falling, jumps or drifts sideways, sweep into it rather than striking, then keep continuous pressure — crown hooks have no barbs and slack loses squid.
  • Shore fan casting — From jetties, breakwaters and rock edges, fan cast across the arc so each cast covers new water. The UV finish earns its keep here in daylight and in coloured water after rain.
  • Boat tip-run — Drop to the bottom, lift twice, then hold still and let the jig swing back on the drift, watching the tip load or go light.

Target Species By Region

  • Southeast Asia — Bigfin reef squid (sotong torak) and cuttlefish (sotong katak) on candat sotong trips off Terengganu, Pahang and Johor, under boat lights at night and off jetties and harbour walls by day.
  • North America — Market squid around California piers and harbour lights, jigged down the pilings after dark.
  • Japan & East Asia — Aoriika on shore eging and kensaki-ika on tip-run boat drifts; the same jigs are fished in Korea and Taiwan.
  • Australia, Middle East & Europe — Southern calamari and cuttlefish over seagrass in South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania; European squid and cuttlefish on Mediterranean marks.
