Tilix UV Ultra Violet Egi Glow 15g / 19g Squid Jig

The Tilix UV Glow is the after-dark half of the Tilix egi range. It carries the same UV-reactive body, but the cloth wrap is luminous: it absorbs light, holds it, and then emits that light back as its own glow. That is a different mechanism from UV. A UV finish reflects ultraviolet light that is already in the water, so it works in daylight and in stained water; a glow cloth makes its own light once charged, so it keeps working at night, under a moonless sky, and below the depth where daylight stops reaching. Charge it for twenty to thirty seconds against a torch, deck light or headlamp before each drop and recharge as the glow fades. The ultra-slim nose darts sharply on two or three rod snaps, the heavy hexagonal belly sinker guides a controlled fall, and an internal tungsten weight adds vibration and sound behind a large recessed 3D eye, feather trim and two rows of stainless crown hooks.

Key Features

  • Sinking squid jig in two sizes: 3.0" at 15g and 3.5" at 19g
  • Luminous glow cloth that charges under a light and glows in deep or dark water
  • UV-reactive body for the low-light hours either side of dark
  • Ultra-slim nose for sharp darting; heavy belly sinker for a controlled falling posture
  • Internal tungsten weight adding vibration and underwater sound
  • Double rows of stainless crown hooks and natural feather trim
  • Suited to jerking, twitching and controlled-fall work from shore, jetty or boat

How To Fish It

  • Charge before every drop — Hold a torch or headlamp against the cloth for twenty to thirty seconds until it is bright, then cast. The glow decays, so recharge each time the jig comes back.
  • Sink count in the dark — Let it fall on a controlled slack line, counting seconds. Add two seconds per cast until you get a take, then repeat that exact count.
  • Shakuri (whipping) cadence — With the tip low, snap the rod sharply upward two to four times so the jig darts, then stop dead. The take comes on the fall; hold the pause longer than you would by day so squid have time to find the glow.
  • Watch the line, not the jig — Keep a gentle bow after each jerk series. If the line stops falling, jumps or drifts sideways, sweep into it and keep steady pressure — crown hooks have no barbs and slack loses squid.
  • Lights and structure — Work the edge of lit water at jetties, boat decks and harbour walls rather than the middle, fan casting the dark side of the light line where squid ambush from.

Target Species By Region

  • Southeast Asia — Bigfin reef squid (sotong torak) and cuttlefish (sotong katak) on night candat sotong trips out of Terengganu, Pahang and Johor, where squid gather under boat lights behind kembung, and jetty squid after dark.
  • North America — Market squid at lit California piers and harbours, worked down the pilings through the night.
  • Japan & East Asia — Aoriika on night shore eging, kensaki-ika and yariika on ika-metal and tip-run boat trips; also fished in Korea and Taiwan.
  • Australia, Middle East & Europe — Southern calamari over seagrass in South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania; European squid and cuttlefish on Mediterranean night marks.
