Santec Sabiki Fast Attack 4421 Fishskin Feather Glow UV Luminous Bead Apollo SW (3 Hooks Per Set)
The Sabiki Apollo lure set is crafted with special feather and luminous fish skin, and combines a UV effect, glow in the dark and an oval red bead to increase visibility in low-light conditions and for night fishing. The 4421 Fast Attack is the only string in the range to run feather and fish skin together, and it is a short one: three dressed hooks per set, in eight sizes from #10 down to #24.
The two materials behave nothing alike, which is the point. Fish skin holds a shape and flashes hard; feather is long, soft and full of air, pulsing open and shut on the smallest water movement and keeping an outline even when the rig is still. Together they flash on the lift and breathe on the pause. The bead here is red rather than luminous — a gill and blood colour that triggers in daylight and in the top few metres, before red is filtered out.
UV and glow are easy to confuse, so here is a test. In a dark room the glow-treated skin lights up by itself, because it stored light and is emitting it; the UV finish stays black, because it emits nothing. In twenty metres of blue water at noon it reverses: the glow is lost in the ambient light while the UV finish reflects the ultraviolet that reaches that depth, which reds and oranges no longer do.
Key Features
- Special feather and luminous fish skin on the same dropper
- UV effect plus glow in the dark, with an oval red bead above each hook
- Sharpened hook points for small, soft-mouthed baitfish
- Three dressed hooks per set — a short string that tangles less on fine hooks
- Eight hook sizes, #10 through #24, the finest range in the Apollo line
How To Fish It
- Go tiny when the bait is tiny — #20 to #24 is anchovy, sprat and whitebait territory. If a #14 string is bumped but not hooked, the fish are smaller than the hook, not fussier.
- Dead-hang the feather — With hooks this fine, hard jigging tears mouths. Hold the rig still and let the feather pulse on the tide; add only a slow 10 cm lift and drop.
- Light drag — Set it light enough that a fish pulls line before a #24 opens or a lip tears on the way up.
- Charge the skin, not the bead — The red bead is a colour trigger, not a glow element. Torchlight is for the luminous skin only.
Target Species By Region
- Southeast Asia — Anchovy (bilis), small sardine (tamban) and juvenile selar off jetties and kelong, taken live for barramundi (siakap) and queenfish.
- North America — Smelt, anchovy and sardine from West Coast piers; silversides and juvenile herring off eastern jetties.
- Japan & East Asia — Sabiki-zuri for small iwashi and young aji when the school is running very small.
- Australia, Middle East & Europe — Whitebait and small yellowtail scad off wharves; sardine and picarel along Gulf and Mediterranean harbour walls.
