The 7912 pairs a rolling swivel with a coastlock snap — the snap form anglers move to when a sprung connection is not acceptable. The tag wire runs down inside a long formed hook and has to be walked back out deliberately, so head shakes, dragged timber and hours of current will not spring it. The formed hook also opens wider than a crosslock, which matters when the lure hangs on a heavy split ring. Behind it the rolling barrel keeps turning under load to shed twist. Nine sizes, #10 through #3/0.

How To Rig It

• Leader to lure or trace — Uni or improved clinch to the swivel eye, lure on the snap. Push the tag wire fully home; a coastlock left short of its seat is the one failure mode this snap has.
• Coastlock or crosslock — how to choose — Both lock. The 7912 coastlock is the heavier, wider-gaped of the two, so it is the pick for big jigs, poppers, trolled lures and any split ring your fingers struggle with. The 7911 crosslock crosses its arm back into the loop for a neater, lower-profile head that suits smaller lures and lighter leaders. Choose by lure size and split-ring thickness first.
• Trolling and heavy lures — Fit between leader and lure on anything that rotates: the barrel takes the twist and the snap holds a bucking lure through a long troll.
• Sizing — #10 to #6 for light plugs and spoons, #4 to #1 for general inshore lures, #1/0 to #3/0 for heavy jigs and poppers. Undersize it and the snap gives first.
• Care — Rinse after salt water. A snap that no longer seats cleanly should be replaced.
