Santec High Speed Treble Rolling Swivel NSB 7913

The Santec 7913 is a three-way rolling swivel — a treble swivel — supplied in four sizes from #4 through to #1/0 under the NSB model designation. Where an ordinary swivel has two eyes and joins two things, this one has three, so it becomes the junction of a rig rather than just a link in it. Main line goes to the top eye, the leader continues from the second, and the third carries a dropper: a sinker, a second baited trace, or a teaser ahead of a trolled lure. The rolling body keeps a spinning bait or a rotating trolled lure from twisting the whole rig into a spring.

How To Use And How To Choose

• Paternoster (dropper) rig — Main line to the top eye, a short sinker link off the side eye, the baited trace off the bottom eye. The bait then sits above the bottom and works free of the lead — the standard reef, jetty and surf bottom rig.
• Trolling with a dropper — Run the lure from the bottom eye and a downrigger release, teaser or sinker from the side eye. This lets you change trolling depth without rebuilding the leader.
• Two-bait rigs — Take a second short trace off the side eye to fish two depths at once. Keep it shorter than the gap to the next hook so the two cannot meet and tangle.
• Knots — Palomar to the top eye on braid, uni or improved clinch on each of the other two. Tie the sinker link on lighter line than the trace so a snagged lead breaks off first and the rig comes back.
• Sizing — #4 and #2 for light estuary droppers, #1 and #1/0 for surf, reef and boat rigs. Load can arrive at any of the three eyes at once, so do not go light here.
