The Santec 7934 is a barrel swivel with a built-in interlock snap, finished in black nickel, in twelve sizes from #12 to #5/0 — rated by the maker up to 44 kg / 98 lb at the top of the range. The barrel rotates through 360 degrees to release the twist that spinning lures, spoons, jigs and rotating baits put into the line, while the interlock snap changes lures, sinkers and rigs without cutting and retying. A barrel swivel is the first rung of the swivel ladder: two eyes swaged into a plain barrel body, no rolling element inside, the simplest and cheapest form. It sheds moderate twist well and slows once heavy load is on it; a crane keeps turning under sustained load, and a ball-bearing swivel turns most freely at the highest cost.

How To Rig It

• Leader to lure — Uni or improved clinch to the swivel eye, lure on the snap; seat the wire fully in the catch before every cast.
• Spinning lures and spoons — Any lure that rotates should run behind a swivel. Fit it at the leader-to-lure junction, and add a second swivel a metre up the leader if twist still reaches the reel.
• Sinker and dropper rigs — Hang the sinker on the snap so weight changes as tide or wind builds, hook trace tied to the swivel eye above.
• Sizing — #12–#6 for float and light freshwater rigs, #4–#1 for estuary and general lure work, #1/0–#5/0 for heavy jigs and bottom traces. Match it to line class and drag, not to the fish you hope for.
