The Deep-X 300 is Megabass's dedicated deep-cranking tool, built around the patented Multi-Way Balancer System. That internal weight arrangement does two jobs: it loads the bait for long casts, then shifts to give a steep dive angle so the lure reaches its 12–15 foot working depth quickly instead of burning half the retrieve getting there. It is also tuned to do more than dig bottom — the balancer magnifies rod input, so twitches and jerks in open water produce the irregular, deflection-style darting that pulls suspended fish off structure. At 76.2mm and 21g it is a compact body for the depth it reaches, which keeps it credible when fish are eating small forage.

How To Fish It

• Long cast and steady grind — Make the longest cast you can, drop the rod tip to the water and wind steadily. The extra line out is what lets the bait use its full dive angle and hold 12–15 ft through the middle of the retrieve.
• Deflect off structure — Grind it into rock, stumps or the top of a ledge, then keep winding. The stall and kick as it clears the object is what triggers following fish.
• Open-water jerk — Over deep grass or a bait school with no bottom contact, feed two sharp jerks into a straight retrieve. The balancer exaggerates the direction change, imitating a deflection where there is nothing to deflect off.
• Warm-water timing — Most productive post-spawn and once water temperatures pass 70°F (21°C), when fish pull out to deeper structure.

• Southeast Asia — Peacock bass and hampala barb (sebarau) working deep points and submerged timber in reservoirs, giant snakehead (toman) holding on drop-offs in the heat of the day, and barramundi (siakap) around deeper jetty pilings.
• North America — Largemouth, smallmouth and spotted bass on offshore ledges, humps and riprap; also walleye and hybrid striped bass over deep structure.
• Japan & East Asia — Black bass on the deep, clear reservoirs where Megabass developed the bait, worked on breaklines and rocky flats through summer.
• Australia, Middle East & Europe — Australian bass, golden perch and barramundi in impoundments; zander, pike and perch on deep European lakes, gravel pits and canal basins.

Recommended Pairing

• Medium-heavy cranking rod of 7' to 7'6" with a moderate action, so the fish loads the blank rather than tearing free on a stiff tip
• Low-gear baitcasting reel around 5.4:1 to 6.3:1, which makes a 21g deep diver easier to pull all day
• 12–16 lb fluorocarbon is the standard match; the thinner the line, the deeper the bait will run
• In Southeast Asian reservoirs with heavy timber, 30–40 lb braid with a 20–25 lb fluorocarbon leader
