Hinotsu Rolling Swivel Stainless Steel 7716

The Hinotsu 7716 is the stainless-steel rolling swivel in the range — the corrosion-resistance upgrade over a plated carbon-steel body. Its freely rotating construction lets the two eyes turn independently, releasing the twisting forces created by spinning lures, trolling rigs, live bait and fighting fish. The compact, chamfered body is shaped to move smoothly through the water with reduced drag and less risk of catching on adjacent tackle, and closed round eyes give knots, split rings, snaps and leaders a secure bearing surface.

The difference that matters is the material. A plated swivel relies on its coating; once that coating is scratched by a split ring or chipped on the gunwale, salt reaches the steel underneath and the barrel starts seizing. The 7716 is built from stainless steel and additionally protected with a black-nickel finish, so a scuff does not become a rust spot and the barrel keeps turning through long saltwater trips and repeated soakings. Choose it over the plain 7712 when the rig will live in salt water; the 7715 adds a crosslock snap, and the 7714 Oyako branches into three ways. Eight sizes from #8 through #3/0.

Key Features

  • Stainless-steel construction for dependable strength and durability in demanding conditions
  • Black-nickel coating adds further protection against rust, corrosion and surface wear
  • Smooth 360-degree rotation releases twisting force from the fishing line
  • Helps prevent line twist from spinning lures, live bait, trolling rigs and rolling fish
  • Chamfered body reduces water resistance and minimises snagging or tangling
  • Multi-directional swivel action as the lure, bait or fish changes direction
  • Closed round eyes for secure attachment of knots, split rings, snaps and leaders
  • Compact profile adds minimal bulk to the presentation
  • Eight sizes covering light freshwater rigs through to offshore bottom fishing

How To Rig It

  • Braid to leader — Tie braid to one eye and fluorocarbon or nylon to the other. Wet the knots before seating them, and leave a short tag so a slipped knot is visible before it costs a fish.
  • Trolling — Set the swivel ahead of any lure or rigged bait that rotates, far enough up the leader that the lure still swims free. On long trolls the swivel is under constant load, which is exactly where stainless earns its keep.
  • Running sinker rigs — Thread the sinker on the main line and tie the swivel in below it as a stop, then run the hook length off the other eye. The swivel keeps the weight clear of the bait and takes out rolling twist.
  • Deep drop and bottom fishing — Long soaks in salt water and repeated contact with wet sand and grit kill plated swivels fastest. Rinse and dry after each trip and the stainless body will run several seasons.
  • Size to the leader — Small sizes for light line and small baits, large sizes as leader diameter, sinker weight and drag increase. Spin the barrel before each session; stiff means done.
