Hinotsu Myopsida Sutte 5 UV Glow — 50 mm / 2.1 g Squid Hook

Myopsida is the scientific order the inshore squid belong to, and this is Hinotsu's smallest sutte: a 50 mm, 2.1 g hard-bodied bait for light-game and micro squid fishing. Unlike an egi, which is cast and jerked on its own, a sutte of this size is normally hung on the branch lines of a vertical dropper rig or fished on a very light rod under jetty and boat lights. The body carries a UV-glow liquid interior behind a hard, durable shell, with realistic eye detail and a sharp multi-point crown hook at the tail. At 2.1 g it falls slowly and hangs almost weightlessly, which is what a shy squid in clear or heavily fished water will accept when a bigger jig is refused. Fourteen colour combinations.

Key Features

  • Internal UV-glow liquid for low-light and deep-water visibility
  • Compact 50 mm profile at 2.1 g — micro sutte for light game
  • Sharp multi-point crown hook at the tail
  • Slow, near-suspended fall suited to slow lifts and small jerks
  • Fourteen colour combinations, all built on a red-head base

How To Fish It

  • Fish it on a dropper — Clip two or three onto the branch lines of a light vertical rig above a small sinker, lower under the boat or off the jetty edge, and work the whole rig together.
  • Sink count, then repeat it — Count the drop in seconds. At 2.1 g it falls slowly, so give it time. Once a squid comes, repeat the same count every drop — squid hold in a layer, and the count is how you get back to it.
  • Small jerks, long pause — Two or three short wrist twitches, then stop and let the bait hang. Almost every take lands in the pause and registers as the line going heavy or simply stopping.
  • Never strike — Squid hug the bait with their arms rather than biting it. Sweep smoothly into the weight and then wind slow and constant. A hard hookset tears the tentacles, and any slack lets the squid release.
  • UV versus glow — UV finishes work by reflecting the ultraviolet light already in the water, so they keep working in daylight and at depth with no charging. Glow needs to be charged with a torch or lamp and then fades, so recharge between drops on night sessions.

Target Species By Region

  • Southeast Asia — Small bigfin reef squid (sotong torak), cuttlefish (sotong katak) and pencil squid on candat sotong nights off Terengganu, Pahang and Johor, and from lit jetties where squid are small and cautious.
  • North America — Market squid off California piers and harbour lights, where a small bait suits the size of the squid.
  • Japan & East Asia — Kensaki-ika and hotaru-ika class squid on light ika-metal droppers; the micro end of the Japanese sutte tradition.
  • Australia, Middle East & Europe — Small southern calamari over seagrass in southern Australia, and European squid on Mediterranean night marks.
