DUEL Squid Jig "Pucca" 75mm / 90mm — A1860 / A1861

Pucca is DUEL's fat cloth sutte. Where most squid baits are slim barrels, this one is deliberately plump and high in buoyancy, and DUEL sells it on a double appeal: the bulk of a big round silhouette, plus the vibration a buoyant body makes as it is shaken. That buoyancy also gives it water grip — it holds posture on a dropper branch instead of sagging flat, so the action stays readable in tide. It is a vertical bait, fished under a boat above an ika-metal jig or lead sutte rather than cast and jerked like an egi. A flash eye, an anti-twist swivel and the Y2 Trick Hook crown finish it, and the tail feather is colour-matched to the body so glow type is identifiable in the dark.

Pucca or Picca? One letter apart, two different tools. Pucca is the volume bait: 75 mm at 5.5 g or 90 mm at 8 g, round-bodied and pushing water, easy for squid to find in stained water, deeper drops or running tide. Picca (A1862) is 80 mm and only 5 g, fish-shaped and tinselled — flash and a slim silhouette for clear, calm, heavily-fished water. Start with Pucca when squid have to locate the bait; switch to Picca when they follow and refuse.

How To Fish It

• Dropper above the jig — Run Pucca on a 30–50 cm branch off the leader with an ika-metal jig or lead sutte below. The jig carries the rig down; the buoyant body rides up and out from the main line.
• Shake and stop — Shake the tip fast and small for two or three seconds, then stop. Squid commit on the stop. Squid also stack in layers, so wind five turns and repeat until you find the level.
• Pick the glow family — Luminous covers day into night, UV keimura suits pressured squid and shallow water, blue luminous earns its place when bites stop after sunset, and non-glow SIR and SHBL work deep where a hard silhouette beats light. Charge luminous cloth under a torch before each drop.
• Lift, do not strike — Squid grip with their arms. When the rod loads or goes light, lift smoothly and wind under constant tension; the crown is barbless and slack loses them.

• Southeast Asia — Bigfin reef squid (sotong torak) and cuttlefish (sotong katak) on candat sotong boats off Terengganu, Pahang and Johor, and from lit jetties in coloured water.
• North America — Market squid worked down the pilings at lit California piers and harbours.
• Japan & East Asia — Kensaki-ika and yariika on ika-metal and omorig rigs, the 90 mm favoured on deeper Sea of Japan grounds; also fished in Korea and Taiwan.
• Australia, Middle East & Europe — Southern calamari over seagrass in South Australia and Tasmania; European squid and cuttlefish on Mediterranean night marks.
