Decoy Y-S22 Treble Hook — Made In Japan

The Y-S22 takes the curved point that defines the Y-S21 and puts it on heavy wire for big-game topwater. A curved point leans toward the bend rather than standing straight up, and that does two jobs: it starts turning into the jaw on contact, so a fish that swipes at a popper still gets pinned, and it sits far enough out of the way that the hook scars the lure body much less than a straight point does. Katsuichi aim it at tuna and hiramasa (yellowtail amberjack) on the surface. In September 2023 the range was extended downward, so the same geometry now runs from small inshore sizes to #5/0. Long taper, low-angle barb, Solid System welding on all three legs, Smart Eye for heavy split rings, vertical eye, tin plating with Aqua Block treatment.

How To Rig It

• Topwater for pelagics — Work the popper or stickbait, and when a fish boils on it keep winding rather than striking at the splash. The curved point does its work as the line comes tight.
• Protecting expensive plugs — If your wooden or resin poppers are getting scarred by their own hooks, this is the swap that stops it. Fit the same size front and rear so the lure keeps tracking.
• Against the Y-S21 — Identical curved-point idea, different wire. The Y-S21 runs standard saltwater gauge for shallow flats, surf and seabass work where the enemy is rock; the Y-S22 runs heavy gauge for offshore fish where the enemy is drag pressure. Same hook shape, two different failure modes.
• Setting up — Heavy wire needs a rod that can move it. Sweep long and low, and check the point after every fish taken near reef.

• Southeast Asia — Giant trevally, dogtooth tuna and Spanish mackerel on popping grounds off Rompin, Sabah and the Andamans; cobia and large queenfish on stickbaits.
• North America — Yellowfin and bluefin tuna on topwater, roosterfish on Baja beaches, and large striped bass and bluefish on inshore plugs.
• Japan & East Asia — Its home use: casting games for hiramasa, buri and tuna, plus large seabass (suzuki) on the smaller sizes.
• Australia, Middle East & Europe — GT, Spanish mackerel and longtail tuna on northern Australian reefs; queenfish and king mackerel in Oman and the Gulf; bluefin and bonito on Mediterranean topwater.
