Decoy WORM100 Shot Guard Worm Hook

The WORM100 Shot Guard takes Decoy's Shot Rig Worm10 masubari and adds a monofilament guard tensioned for cover finesse work. Decoy describes it as a weedless hook tuned specifically for wacky rigging, and the higher the fishing pressure the more it earns its place — it keeps a small, subtle bait working in the brush, weed and timber that would otherwise force a heavier, more obvious presentation. The mono guard gives a softer, quieter deflection than wire: it sheds grass and twigs on the way in, then folds away from the point on the bite. Decoy's stated goal is the balance of the three things a guarded hook must get right at once — weedless performance, hooking performance and guard durability.

How To Rig It

• Wacky rig (the intended use) — Hook a stick worm dead centre, across the body, so the two halves balance and the guard sits over the point. Cast to the edge of cover and let it fall on slack line; the worm shimmies down horizontally and most bites come before it reaches bottom.
• O-ring wacky — Slide a rubber O-ring onto the middle of the worm with a wacky tool, then pass the hook under the ring rather than through the plastic. The bait survives far more fish and the gap stays clear.
• Neko rig in cover — Add a nail weight to the worm's nose and cross-hook it a third of the way back. Small shakes make the tail stand and quiver while the head stays pinned among rock and wood.
• Down shot in brush — Cross-hook the worm above a drop shot sinker and shake it in place inside brush piles or weed edges; the guard is what makes that practical.
