Decoy W Snap SN-6 Fishing Snap Made In Japan
The SN-6 is the strength end of the Decoy SN snap range, and the only one that opens from either side. That double-sided gate is where the "W" comes from: two bends instead of one, so the wire is worked in two places rather than levering on a single hinge, and a lure clips in from whichever side falls to hand. Katsuichi form it in high-hardness SUS stainless steel and set the bend in a V so the knot cannot creep along the wire, which holds the lure action steady and lets the wire carry its full strength. The cross-lock structure also cushions a sudden load instead of passing all of it into the leader knot.
Where It Sits In The SN Range
- SN-6 (this model) — double-bend construction and a two-sided gate: the strongest, bulkiest choice, for big baits and hard-pulling fish.
- SN-3 Egg — the other power option, cross-lock in a single rounded gate; slimmer than the W, still built for big baits.
- Lighter and faster: SN-1 Round everyday, SN-2 V for darting minnows, SN-5 Spiral for no-gate quick changes, SN-7 Open Swivel for rig building.
Key Features
- Double-sided opening — rig from either side, useful with cold or gloved hands
- High-hardness SUS stainless steel to resist deformation under load
- V-bend structure stops the knot slipping along the wire and holds the lure action stable
- Cross-lock closure that cushions shock loads rather than passing them to the knot
- NS Black finish, made in Japan by Katsuichi; five sizes stocked, 8 pieces per pack
How To Rig It
- Where it goes — Tie the leader to the closed V-bend with a wetted uni or improved clinch, never to the gate. Clip the lure's split ring, not the bare wire eye, so the ring takes the wear.
- Matching size to line and lure — #0 and #1 for light plugs and shads on 8–16 lb class tackle; #2 and #3 for larger minnows, vibes and inshore plugging; #4 for big baits and heavy plugging where the drag stays locked.
- When the snap is the weakest link — Decoy do not print a rated strength on this range. Any snap on a locked drag, on a heavy bait, or on a fish being turned out of structure is carrying the rig on one gate. Size up rather than run a small snap hard.
- Check both gates — Because it opens from two sides there are two closures to confirm. Close them fully, then pull the lure sideways against each before casting.
- After saltwater, rinse in fresh water — Dried salt stiffens the bends. Flush the terminal set after every trip and retire any snap showing rust at a closure.
