Decoy VJ-73 Egg Two-One Jig Head — Made In Japan

The VJ-73 Egg Two-One is Decoy's standard football jig head for the heavy end of soft-plastic bass fishing — a bulky worm on a heavy head, dropped in to draw a reaction bite rather than to be swum. Two features answer the usual complaints about that style. The first is an up-point jig hook that turns into the roof of the mouth quickly, so fewer fish are thrown when a heavy head gives them something to shake against. The second is the two-stage keeper the "Two-One" name points at: two barbed steps on the collar that lock a fat worm in place instead of letting it slide down on the cast. Around those, the weight balance and eye position keep the head nose-up and shrugging off rock. The same double keeper makes it a natural base for a home-tied rubber jig.

How To Rig It

• Seat a bulky worm properly — Push the plastic straight over both keeper steps until the nose meets the head, with no gap and no twist. A bulky bait that is half-seated will slide on the first cast and kill the action.
• Drop it in for the reaction bite — Pitch to a rock, laydown or ledge and let the head fall on a controlled line. With a heavy head and a wide worm the bite usually comes in the first two falls; if not, move.
• Drag on hard bottom — Keep the rod at 3 o'clock and pull slowly so the football base bumps rock and gravel with the hook riding up. Pause every time the bottom changes.
• Build a rubber jig — Wrap a skirt onto the keeper, finish with thread and add a craw trailer.
