Decoy Round Snap SN-1 Made In Japan

The SN-1 is the general-purpose lure snap of the Decoy SN range — the default fitting when no single quality (change speed, minimum bulk, maximum strength) has to be pushed ahead of the others. Katsuichi developed it from the observation that the hardware between line and lure changes how the lure behaves, and shaped the bend with CFD (computational fluid dynamics) to cut the turbulent flow that interferes with movement. The round bent form works across a wide spread of lure eye types, from 8-pin eyes through to screw (heaton) eyes, and seats smoothly on the deep-set eyes of long-bill minnows that conventional snaps struggle with. Reduced contact loss means the lure reproduces its intended action, and strict weight tolerances keep piece-to-piece variation from upsetting a balanced bait.

Where It Sits In The SN Range

• SN-1 (this model) — the everyday choice: round bend, gated closure, easy on awkward lure eyes.
• SN-2 V — smaller, with the line pull fixed at one point on the eye; better for minnows and shads fished with a hard dart.

How To Rig It

• Where it goes — Tie the leader to the closed upper bend with a wetted uni or improved clinch, never to the gate wire. Clip the split ring rather than the bare lure eye where a ring is fitted, so the ring takes the abrasion.
• Matching size to tackle — #00 for micro plugs and area trout gear on 2–6 lb class line; #0 for small to medium minnows, shads and spoons; #2 for larger hard baits and light inshore work. Match the class of tackle, not the size of the lure.
• Deep and awkward lure eyes — On long-bill minnows where the eye sits recessed in the lip, feed the gate in from the side of the bill rather than head-on; this shape goes where a squarer snap will not.
• When the snap is the weakest link — Decoy do not print a rated strength on this range. On a locked drag, a heavy bait, or a fish that must be turned out of timber, the rig hangs on one gate. Step across to the SN-3 or SN-6 for that work.
• Rinse after saltwater use — Salt dries inside the gate and stiffens it. Flush the terminal set after each trip and retire any snap that no longer closes cleanly.
