Decoy Open Swivel SN-7 Made In Japan

The SN-7 is the only connector in Decoy's SN group that rotates, and the only one whose lower eye is left open — so the hook or sinker hanging off it changes without cutting the knot. Katsuichi build it as the swivel part used in rigs such as the Zero Dan Worm 217: combine your own hook and sinker to suit the tackle and the water, and you have a custom ZD (Zero Leader Downshot) system instead of a fixed one. The knot end uses a diamond-shaped eye, which raises the strength of the swivel section and keeps the leader seated. Run with a hook alone it adds clearance at the knot, which is why it also cuts tangles on no-sinker and Carolina rigs.

How To Rig It

• Where it goes — Tie leader or main line to the closed diamond eye with a wetted uni or Palomar. The open eye faces down and carries the hook, the sinker, or both.
• Size to the hook, not the lure — Decoy list S for hooks #4 to #2, M for #1 to #2/0, L for #3/0 to #5/0. An oversized swivel on a small worm hook kills the fall.
• No-sinker and Carolina work — Sit it directly above the hook so the bait swings free and the leader stops wrapping the shank on the cast.
• When it is the weakest link — Decoy publish no rated breaking strength here. On locked drags or fish that must be turned out of cover, treat the open eye as the limit and check it is seated before each cast.
• After saltwater — Salt dries inside a rotating body and stiffens it. Rinse in fresh water and retire anything that no longer spins freely.
