Decoy Single30 Spoonin' Single Hook — Made In Japan
The Single30 Spoonin' Single is a replacement single hook for spoons, sized for the 1 g to 7 g ultralight-to-medium class that dominates managed trout ponds and light freshwater fishing. Converting a spoon from treble to single is standard practice there, for three reasons. A single fouls bottom and net far less often, which matters when a small spoon works close to weed and gravel. It does less damage, so fish go back releasable. And it interferes least with the action — a treble under a 2 g blade dampens the wobble the spoon exists to produce, while one light hook lets it keep swinging.
The details follow from that job. The eye is upturned so pull from the split ring goes straight into the point rather than levering against it, and the point carries a subtle curve that starts penetrating early. The gape is shaped to hold through the rolling and jumping that throw hooks out of trout. A micro barb cuts losses without making the hook hard to set or remove, and the NS Black finish adds wire hardness. In salt water it suits small metal jigs. Supplied in #8, #10 and #12.
Decoy's single conversions split by lure type. The Single27 Pluggin' Single is for hard baits — minnows, poppers, small cranks — where buoyancy and swimming action are the concern. The Single29 Trailer Single is the rear hook for jigs, chosen for jaw penetration and abrasion life. The Single30 is the spoon hook: lightest of the three, up-eye, shaped to survive a trout's roll.
Key Features
- Replacement single hook for spoons of roughly 1–7 g
- Up-eye transmitting hooking power straight into the point
- Curved point angle for quick hook-up and deep penetration
- Gape shaped to absorb a trout's rolling and jumping
- Micro barb — fewer dropped fish, easy unhooking, release-friendly
- Wide eye that takes a split ring easily
- NS Black finish adding wire hardness and durability
How To Rig It
- Rear conversion — Remove the treble and fit the Single30 to the tail split ring, point riding upward. That keeps it clear of bottom on a slow retrieve and hooks fish taking from below.
- Match hook to spoon weight — #12 for 1–2 g micro spoons, #10 for 2–4 g, #8 for 4–7 g. Too large and the spoon stops wobbling.
- Slow steady retrieve — Managed-pond trout want a constant slow wind, just fast enough to keep the spoon rolling. Do not strike; let the rod load.
- Count down and lift-drop — For deeper fish, count the spoon down and use small lifts on a semi-slack line. Takes come on the flutter, and the up-eye turns the hook in as line tightens.
Target Species By Region
- Southeast Asia — Juvenile trevally, small barracuda and queenfish (talang) on micro jigs off jetties, plus highland trout waters in northern Vietnam.
- North America — Stocked and wild rainbow, brook and brown trout in streams and put-and-take lakes, plus panfish on micro spoons.
- Japan & East Asia — The home use: area trout (managed pond) fishing for rainbow trout, plus yamame and iwana on small spoons in mountain streams.
- Australia, Middle East & Europe — Rainbow and brown trout in Australian and New Zealand lakes; trout, perch and grayling on light spoons in European rivers.
