Santec Bom Spring 4.0cm Mata Bom Bait Feeder

The Santec Mata Bom Spring is a compact bait feeder for freshwater bottom fishing. Its spiral metal frame holds mouldable bait — softened pellets, groundbait, bread paste or cereal mixes — pressed firmly around and between the coils so it stays put through handling and the cast. Underwater the packed bait softens and releases scent and small particles around the hook, creating a feeding zone that brings fish in and keeps them there. A straight support wire runs through the centre to hold the spring's shape, and the fitted swivel lets the feeder rotate freely, which helps reduce line twist on the cast and retrieve. This is the plain spring: no lead and no float, so you choose your own sinker and set the rig up to suit the swim.

Key Features

  • Strong spiral spring construction with wide coils for good bait capacity
  • Central support wire helps the feeder keep its shape
  • Built-in swivel helps reduce line twisting
  • Attachment loop connects easily to different rigs
  • Green end beads separate and protect the metal components
  • Metallic corrosion-resistant finish; reusable after washing and drying
  • Unweighted, so sinker size is entirely your choice

How To Fish It

  • Get the mix right — Add water a little at a time until the bait holds together when squeezed but still crumbles between the fingers. Too wet and it slips off in mid-air; too dry and it never opens up on the bottom.
  • Pack it tight — Press the bait hard into the coils, then mould the outside smooth so it does not catch air. Cast with a smooth loaded stroke rather than a hard snap.
  • Add your own weight — Run a running sinker above the swivel, or fix a sinker below it for a fixed rig. Use only as much lead as you need to hold bottom and reach the spot.
  • Short droppers — Two or three droppers of roughly 3–6 cm keep the hooks inside the bait ball. Bury the hooks in the bait or let them rest against it.
  • Bait the swim first — Cast three or four loaded springs to the same spot before fishing it properly, then reload every 10–20 minutes until fish move in.

Target Species By Region

  • Southeast Asia — The standard mata bom feeder in Malaysian and Indonesian kolam pancing: catfish (keli), carp (ikan kap), tilapia (talapia) and patin, plus estuary and jetty work for threadfin (senangin) and bream.
  • North America — The coil-spring approach for channel, blue and flathead catfish on punch or dough bait, and carp in rivers and reservoirs.
  • Japan & East Asia — The same principle as dango-zuri bait-ball fishing for carp (koi), crucian carp (herabuna) and black seabream (chinu).
  • Australia, Middle East & Europe — A simple relative of the European method feeder for carp and bream; also tilapia and catfish in Gulf ponds and canals.
