The Santec Bom Spring 3908 is the plain version of the mata bom bait feeder: a strong spiral with a straight support wire down the centre and a connection loop at each end. No swivel and no hooks attached, which is the point — it is a component for anglers who build their own bottom rigs and decide for themselves how many hooks to run and how long the leaders should be. Bait is pressed into and between the coils; once the rig settles, the ball softens and releases scent and particles right where the hook bait sits. Wide coil spacing takes a generous load, and four sizes let you match the bait volume to the water instead of always feeding the same portion.

How To Fish It

• Choosing the size — 4cm and 5cm suit lighter rods, clear ponds and cautious fish; 6cm and 7cm carry more bait for coloured water, current, or a heavier feeding patch. Bigger springs need heavier tackle to cast safely.
• Getting the mix right — Aim for a dough that holds when squeezed but crumbles when rubbed. Too wet and it sits as a lump; too dry and it leaves the spring in mid-air.
• Packing and casting — Push bait in from both sides so it grips the coils and support wire, then smooth it into a ball. Cast with an unhurried action, not a hard flick.
• Hook leaders off the end loops — Tie one or more short leaders to the end loops so the hooks sit close to the ball, with the point either buried in the paste or hanging just clear of it.
• Re-baiting rhythm — Reload and recast every ten to fifteen minutes early on to build the patch. Once fish are feeding, leave the rig down longer and recast only when the spring returns empty and untouched.
