Luresfactory Hobbit Rubber Frog 3.8cm 6.5g Soft Frog

The Hobbit is the small end of the Lures Factory soft frog range — a 3.8cm rubber body carrying 6.5g, which is heavy for its length and is the reason it casts and fishes far better than its size suggests. The dense, balanced body loads a rod properly and can be placed accurately into narrow openings: gaps in weed, the shaded slot under an overhanging branch, the seam where grass meets open water. Where a larger frog would be refused, this compact silhouette matches the small prey that fish in canals, drains and shallow ponds actually feed on. The body is moulded with a bumpy frog-skin texture and finished in eleven colours, from natural greens and browns through to lemon, orange, grey and blue. A strong 1/0 double hook sits close along the back, so the lure travels around light vegetation with much less exposure than a treble-hooked lure — no lure is completely snag-free. Behind it, a rear metal spinner blade rotates on the retrieve, adding flash and vibration so a small lure still registers in stained water and under thick cover.

Key Features

  • Compact 3.8cm rubber frog body at 6.5g — dense for its length
  • Soft body that compresses on the bite so the hook points come clear
  • Strong 1/0 double hook mounted close to the body
  • Rear metal spinner blade for flash, vibration and water disturbance
  • Eleven colours covering natural, bright and low-light choices
  • Works on steady, twitching and stop-and-go retrieves

How To Fish It

  • Steady wind to keep the blade turning — Wind at a constant moderate speed with the rod tip low. The blade needs continuous movement to spin, so avoid speeding up and slowing down.
  • Pitch into small openings — This is what the extra weight buys you. Drop it into a hole in the weed, twitch it two or three times inside the pocket, then move to the next one rather than dragging it back across the mat.
  • Downsize when fish are refusing — When fish boil at a large frog without eating, cast the Hobbit back on the same line. The smaller profile often converts a follow into a take.
  • Squeeze the water out — A soft frog fished hard will take on water through the hook slots. Squeeze it out between casts so the body keeps its buoyancy and still collapses cleanly on the strike.
  • Let the fish take it before setting — The soft body folds around the hook when a fish clamps down, but only if the fish has it. Do not strike at the splash; wait until you feel weight loading the rod, then sweep hard and low.

Target Species By Region

  • Southeast Asia — Striped snakehead (haruan) in paddy drains, ditches and lotus ponds, small giant snakehead (toman) on weed edges, hampala barb (sebarau) on shallow river margins, peacock bass in lily pockets.
  • North America — Largemouth bass in duckweed, pads and grass lines; chain pickerel and bowfin in weedy backwaters; northern snakehead in tidal creeks.
  • Japan & East Asia — Snakehead (raigyo) in irrigation canals and ponds, bass over shallow reservoir weed, catfish (namazu) at dusk in paddy channels.
  • Australia, Middle East & Europe — Sooty grunter and saratoga in creek pools and lily-covered billabongs; perch and small pike over weed in European lakes and canals.

  • Medium to medium-heavy casting or spinning rod with enough backbone to drive a 1/0 double home

  • Short fluorocarbon leader in clear water; braid alone where fish must be lifted out of weed
  • Add a short wire trace where snakehead or pike are present
