Hinotsu WH-4 Worm Hook Ringed NSB 4787

The WH-4 is a Japanese-made offset hook for worms, grubs, shads and similar soft plastics. Its offset shank holds the bait firmly, while the straight cutting-style point aligns pulling force toward the tip for direct penetration. Its emphasis is holding: the sharp retaining barb is built to stop the hook working loose when a fish shakes, rolls or runs, which is what a long fight against structure asks of a worm hook. The finish is corrosion-resistant black nickel — the NSB in the model code.

In the WH range the WH-4 is the heavy end. It carries the widest ladder of the four, #2 and #1 through to #5/0, five per pack, so one model covers small plastics up to full creature baits. Choose it where fish are big or cover is heavy; the WH-2 and WH-3 are the lighter options.

Key Features

  • Offset worm-hook shank — the crank seats the bait head and makes weedless rigging possible; straight shanks are for wacky and nose-hooked rigs
  • Straight point aligned with the eye for a direct hookset
  • Eagle-cutting geometry, with angled edges that penetrate against less resistance
  • Sharp retaining barb to hold through shaking, rolling and long runs
  • Ringed eye: takes a snap directly for quick hook changes and will not cut a leader
  • Black-nickel (NSB) finish for low glare and resistance to corrosion and surface wear
  • Seven sizes, #2 and #1 through #5/0, five hooks per pack; made in Japan

How To Rig It

  • Weedless Texas rig — Enter the nose of the plastic, exit through the belly a centimetre down, slide the bait over the offset crank until the head seats at the eye, rotate the hook 180°, lay it back along the body and bury the point just inside the skin. Peg the bullet sinker when punching cover.
  • Punching mats — With a heavy weight, drop the rig through the mat, let it hit bottom, hop it twice and pull out. Fish under matted weed usually take on the initial fall.
  • Setting through the plastic — A weedless point costs hook-setting force: wind down tight and set hard and low. A sideways sweep drives the point better than a vertical lift.
  • Size to bait — #2–#1 for 2–3in plastics, #1/0–#2/0 for 4in worms, #3/0 for 5in, #4/0–#5/0 for 6in worms, big craws and creature baits.

Target Species By Region

  • Southeast Asia — Toman and haruan punched through weed mats, siakap (barramundi) and mangrove jack in mangrove roots, sebarau and peacock bass on reservoir timber.
  • North America — Largemouth bass flipped into laydowns and matted vegetation; redfish and speckled trout worked weedless over grass.
  • Japan & East Asia — Black bass around cover in reservoirs and canals, and larger rockfish where a buried point stays out of the rocks.
  • Australia, Middle East & Europe — Barramundi and Australian bass in snag country; pike and zander on large weedless plastics in lakes and canals.
