Hinotsu Rolling Swivel 7712

The Hinotsu 7712 is the plain, two-eye rolling swivel — the baseline connector in the Hinotsu swivel range and the one most rigs start with. Its freely rotating barrel releases the twisting force created by spinning bait, rotating lures, trolled rigs and fish that roll during a fight, so the twist never travels up into the main line as kinks and wind knots. A black nickel finish improves resistance to rust and corrosion, making it suitable for saltwater rigs, and strong rounded eyes give knots, split rings and snaps a smooth bearing surface. The streamlined body keeps the profile compact with minimal resistance in the water. Six sizes from #6 up to #2/0 cover light bait fishing through to heavier inshore work.

Within the range the 7712 is the pure swivel: no snap, no branch arm, no stainless upgrade. Choose the 7715 for a built-in crosslock snap, the 7714 Oyako for a three-way branch rig, and the 7716 for stainless-steel construction on long saltwater trips.

How To Rig It

• Main line to leader — Tie braid or mono to one eye and the leader to the other with a snug uni or improved clinch. Wet both knots before seating them — a dry knot on a hard eye burns and fails early.
• Above a running sinker — Thread the sinker on the main line, then tie in the swivel as a stopper and run the hook length below it. The swivel keeps the sinker off the bait and takes the twist out of a rolling bait in current.
• Trolling and spinning rigs — Any lure that rotates — a spoon, a spinner, a dead bait — needs a swivel ahead of it, set far enough up the leader that the lure still swims free.
• Size to the leader, not the fish — Step up as leader diameter and drag setting increase. The swivel should never be the thinnest part of the chain, and an oversized one on light line only adds drag.
• Check rotation before each session — Hold both eyes and spin. A barrel that has taken salt and grit turns stiffly, and a stiff swivel is doing nothing at all.
