Hinotsu Eging R-Type Squid Hook 3680 — #1.5 / #1.8 / #2.2

Squid lures split into two families. An egi is the shrimp-shaped jig with a weighted keel under the nose: it is cast, jerked, and allowed to glide back down, and the squid grabs it on the fall. A sutte is the simpler barrel bait hung off branch lines on a vertical rig. The R-Type 3680 sits on the egi side. Hinotsu's own note is plain: the design looks basic, but the edged sinker keeps the jig lying horizontally through the drop instead of nose-diving, so the fall reads as natural to a following squid. Three compact sizes cover light rods, jetties and small boats.

Key Features

  • Egi-type squid jig with an edged keel sinker for horizontal fall posture
  • Three sizes: #1.5 (6 cm), #1.8 (7 cm), #2.2 (9 cm), measured including the hook
  • Rear crown hook array for holding tentacles
  • Six colour codes: RH, OG, PR, GN, PK, BL
  • Model code 3680; size and colour encoded in the SKU

How To Fish It

  • Count the sink — Cast and let the jig drop on a controlled slack line while counting seconds. Start at five, add five each cast, and once a squid comes, repeat that exact count. Squid hold in layers, and the count is how you return to the layer.
  • Shakuri jerk and glide — Tip low, snap upward two or three times quickly so the jig darts, then drop the tip and let it glide back for several seconds under a gentle bow of line. The jerks call squid in; the long fall is what gets grabbed.
  • Never strike, never slack — A squid hugs the jig with its arms, it does not bite. When the line stops falling or slides sideways, sweep smoothly into the weight, then wind slow and even with the rod loaded. A hard hookset tears tentacles; slack loses the squid.
  • Work the edge of the light — Under jetty lamps or boat lights, cast past the bright patch and bring the jig back through the shadow line. Squid sit in the dark and ambush what drifts out of the glare.

Target Species By Region

  • Southeast Asia — Bigfin reef squid (sotong torak) and cuttlefish (sotong katak) on candat sotong nights off Terengganu, Pahang and Johor, plus jetty squid around lit harbours.
  • North America — Market squid off California piers, harbour lights and moorings from Monterey to San Diego.
  • Japan & East Asia — Aoriika on shore eging, kensaki-ika and yariika on the smaller sizes; the same jigs are used in Korea and Taiwan.
  • Australia, Middle East & Europe — Southern calamari and cuttlefish over seagrass in South Australia and Tasmania; European squid on Mediterranean eging marks.
