Hayabusa EB956 Wide Gap Offset Worm Hook — Made In Japan

The EB956 is Hayabusa's standard-gauge wide gap offset worm hook, sold in Japan and the United States as the WRM956 Wide Gap Offset. Hayabusa engineered it for wider and bulkier soft plastics, giving enough separation between bend and bait body that the plastic collapses cleanly on the strike and the point comes through instead of stopping in the lure. The S-shaped shank head grips the nose of the bait and stops it sliding or tearing during hooksets, while the offset shoulder lets the point be buried or laid flush for a weedless finish. The body is forged, the eye ringed, the point a sharp straight point that transfers hookset force in a direct line. The finish is Hayabusa's NRB coating, a non-reflective black fluorine layer that reduces glare and helps penetration. Seven sizes, #1/0 to #7/0.

Key Features

  • Wide gap profile giving thick soft plastic bodies room to compress on the strike
  • Standard gauge forged wire — strong enough for cover, fine enough for lighter line
  • S-shaped shank head that holds the bait nose and reduces sliding and tearing
  • NRB non-reflective black fluorine coating for a low-glare finish
  • Seven sizes, #1/0 to #7/0, from soft jerkbaits up to large creature baits

How To Rig It

  • Texas rig — Point in through the nose, out the belly, rotate the hook, then re-enter so the point sits just under the skin. Keep the bait straight against the shank, or it will spin and twist line.
  • Weightless soft jerkbait — A #2/0 to #4/0 through a fluke or stick bait, twitched on slack line so it darts. The S-shank head matters most here, where a plain hook lets the bait creep down the shank.
  • Weedless swimbait — Larger sizes through a paddle-tail, wound steadily over weed with the point flush against the back.

Target Species By Region

  • Southeast Asia — Peacock bass and hampala barb (sebarau) in reservoir timber, giant snakehead (toman) and haruan over weed, barramundi (siakap) on weedless flukes around mangrove roots and jetty pilings.
  • North America — Largemouth, smallmouth and spotted bass on Texas rigs, Carolina rigs, weightless flukes and weedless swimbaits; also redfish over inshore grass.
  • Japan & East Asia — Black bass in reservoirs and rivers, the home fishery for the pattern, plus rockfish game where a soft plastic must keep its shape through repeated casts into structure.
  • Australia, Middle East & Europe — Barramundi, Australian bass and saratoga in snags; pike, perch and zander on weedless plastics in European lakes and canals.

EB956 or EB959? Both are wide gap offset hooks with the S-platform head and NRB coating; the difference is gauge and size span. The EB956 is the general-purpose version and covers #1/0 to #7/0, reaching down to #1/0 and #2/0 for soft jerkbaits, senkos and smaller creatures. The EB959 is thick forged heavy duty wire and starts at #3/0. The finer wire also means more hooks per packet where the sizes overlap: 6 at #3/0 against 5, 5 at #4/0 against 4, 4 at #6/0 against 3. Use the EB956 as the everyday worm hook, the EB959 for matted weed and heavy timber.

Recommended Pairing

  • #1/0–#2/0: 4–5 inch worms, senkos and soft jerkbaits, 8–14 lb fluorocarbon on medium spinning or casting tackle
  • #3/0–#4/0: 4–6 inch craws and creature baits, 14–20 lb fluorocarbon on a medium-heavy baitcaster
  • #5/0–#7/0: 6–8 inch worms and swimbaits, PE 2–4 braid with a heavy leader
  • 1/8–3/8 oz bullet sinker for Texas work; a 60–120 cm fluorocarbon leader for Carolina rigs
