The Kirin 1500yds Black Braided Line Series is a bulk-spool PE braid supplied on one 1,500-yard spool, in four line classes — 40, 50, 60 and 80 lb — all in black. A spool this long is bought to be shared out: it fills several reels from a single purchase and leaves enough in reserve to cut back a chafed top section and respool mid-season. Standardising a rack of reels on one spool also means every outfit casts and signals a bite the same way. The 40 and 50 lb classes cover general casting and inshore work; 60 and 80 lb suit jigging, bottom fishing and heavy structure.

How To Fish It

• Spooling under tension — Wind on firmly through a damp cloth or gloved hand. Braid loaded loosely will dig into itself on the first hard run.
• Joining a leader — Use an FG knot for the slimmest join through the guides, or a double uni on the water. Tie terminal tackle direct with a Palomar; a plain clinch slips on braid.
• Choosing the class — Pick for the structure, not the fish. 40–50 lb in open water; 60–80 lb where fish are pulled out of coral, timber or jetty piles.
• Reversing the line — When the working end is worn, strip it off, reverse it and put the unused end into service.

Recommended Pairing

• 40–50 lb: 4000–6000 spinning reels or baitcasters on medium to medium-heavy casting and light jigging rods
• 60–80 lb: 8000–14000 spinning or overhead reels on heavy jigging, popping and bottom rods
• Finish with a fluorocarbon or hard mono leader of similar class, and add a short wire trace where cutters are present
