HAYABUSA - FF208 HYPER TORNADO WEIGHTED WORM HOOK
Hayabusa FF208 Hyper Tornado Weighted Worm Hook
Hayabusa describe the FF208 as a weighted screw lock hook that fuses the swimming balance of a soft swimbait with a fall posture that draws bites, produced with Japanese pro angler Ken Iyobe. Two things separate it from a plain offset hook. The first is the Tornado itself — the spiral screw keeper wound onto the front of the shank. You turn the head of the soft plastic onto that coil rather than pushing the plastic onto a bare shank, so the bait locks square and stays there through casts, weed contact and short strikes. The second is the weight, moulded onto the shank with a slightly forward centre of gravity. That forward bias stabilises the fall, keeps a swimbait tracking upright early in the retrieve, and lets an otherwise weightless weedless rig be cast a long way and dropped quickly, with no bullet sinker sliding above the knot.
Key Features
- Screw lock keeper — a spiral coil that threads into the bait nose and holds it square
- Integrated shank weight: no separate sinker sliding on the leader
- Forward centre of gravity to stabilise fall posture and keep the bait upright
- Wide gap offset bend for weedless rigging; produced with Ken Iyobe
- Three hooks per pack; #3/0, #4/0 and #5/0 in 1.8 g and 3.5 g
How To Rig It
- Threading the bait on — Centre the coil on the nose and turn the bait onto the screw, not the screw into the bait. Keep it on the centre line, then bring the point out and back in for a weedless finish.
- Weedless swimbait — The intended use. Rig a paddle-tail and wind steadily; the forward weight holds the nose down and stops the body rolling out of line at speed. Count it down and swim it just over the weed tops.
- Free fall on the drop — Let it sink on a controlled slack line and watch where the line enters the water. The forward weight gives a nose-down, level glide rather than a tail-first tumble, and most bites come here.
- Choosing the weight — 1.8 g for shallow flats and a slow glide; 3.5 g for distance into wind, a faster drop, or holding depth in current.
Target Species By Region
- Southeast Asia — Giant snakehead (toman) and haruan over lily pads and weed, peacock bass and hampala barb (sebarau) on weedless swimbaits in reservoir timber, barramundi (siakap) in mangrove drains where a treble-hooked lure would foul.
- North America — Largemouth, smallmouth and spotted bass on weedless swimbaits, flukes and creature baits over grass and laydowns; pike over weed and redfish on grass flats.
- Japan & East Asia — Black bass in reservoirs and rivers, the fishery this hook was developed for, especially soft swimbait work along weed edges.
- Australia, Middle East & Europe — Barramundi, saratoga and Australian bass over snags; pike, perch and zander on weedless plastics in European lakes and gravel pits.
