Duel EZ-Slim Cloth Parasol 85mm A1687 Sutte

The Parasol is the loudest member of Duel's slim sutte family. It keeps the narrow ez-SLIM body — the low-drag section that falls straight and stays under the boat in current — but replaces the plain feather tail with an umbrella-shaped cloth skirt that opens and closes as the jig moves. That pulsing skirt gives a much bigger visual and water-pushing signal than a slim jig normally produces, which is what you want when squid are scattered, the water is stained, or you are trying to pull fish across from a neighbouring boat's lights. A rattle inside the body imitates the click of a fleeing shrimp, a blue luminous spot marks the head in the dark, and the hook shaft is thickened to 0.8mm so a big squid or a snagged crown does not fold it.

How To Fish It

• Dropper above a metal jig — Set it on a 30–50 cm branch line above a 15–40g lead or metal sutte. Use it as the upper of two droppers so the skirt is the first thing squid see coming off the bottom.
• Open the skirt, then stop — A short sharp lift of 20–30cm opens the parasol; drop the tip and stop dead for four or five seconds while it closes again. Nearly every take lands in that closing pause.
• When to pick it over the plain cloth — Choose the Parasol in stained water, on a bright moon, when the boat is on a fast drift, or when squid are showing on the sounder but not committing. Go back to the plain 70–80mm ez-SLIM when they are thick, small, or short-biting.
• Do not strike — A take feels like added weight or a tip that stops springing back. Lean the rod over to load it, then wind at one steady speed. Pumping puts slack in the line and barbless crowns let go.
• Charge the glow — Hold it under the deck light or a UV torch for 20–30 seconds before each drop and again whenever the luminous spot fades.

• Southeast Asia — Bigfin reef squid (sotong torak) and cuttlefish (sotong katak) on candat sotong night trips from Malaysian, Thai and Indonesian ports, worked over reef edges and lit anchorages.
• North America — Market squid on Californian night boats and lit piers, and squid taken as fresh bait for rockfish and tuna trips.
• Japan & East Asia — Kensaki-ika, yariika and surumeika on ika-metal and omorig boats, where a high-appeal dropper is standard practice on the top branch.
• Australia, Middle East & Europe — Southern calamari and arrow squid over weed beds in southern Australia; cuttlefish on Gulf marks; European squid and cuttlefish on Mediterranean and Atlantic night grounds.
