DUEL - EZ-Q MAG CAST SEARCH DOUBLE GLOW 2.5" A1769 SQUID HOOK
DUEL EZ-Q Mag Cast Search Double Glow 2.5" Squid Jig A1769
This is the distance model of the EZ-Q family. A Mag Cast egi carries a tungsten weight that slides back into the tail on the cast, then locks forward again for the retrieve — the moving centre of gravity used in long-casting minnows, applied to a squid jig. DUEL fixes the weight in the rear with a magnet housing called the Mag Pocket, so the transfer holds firm through hard darting and a fast fall rather than rattling loose. The result is more water covered per cast, plus a lower centre of gravity that keeps the jig nose-down and stable. The Search Double Glow finish adds a two-stage luminous system over a blue-based pilot colour: blue is the wavelength that survives longest as depth increases, which makes this a searching colour rather than a matching one. DUEL rates the sinking speed at about 5.0 seconds per metre in size #2.5 — a slow, hanging fall that keeps the jig in front of a following squid.
Key Features
- Mag Cast system: magnetised tungsten weight transfer for longer casting and a lower centre of gravity
- Mag Pocket rear magnet housing that holds the weight securely through hard jerks and fast falls
- Double Glow luminous treatment for sustained visibility after dark and at depth
- Blue-based pilot colouring that appeals broadly and reads well at depth
- Sinking speed of about 5.0 seconds per metre — a slow, controlled fall
- Size #2.5, model A1769, in seven Double Glow colour codes
How To Fish It
- Long-range fan casting — Cast hard and fan across the arc so every cast covers new ground, working the far edge of a jetty light or a weed line that shorter casts cannot reach.
- Count the fall by the numbers — At roughly 5.0 seconds per metre the maths is easy: a ten count is about two metres. Add two seconds each cast until you find the layer holding squid, then repeat that count every time.
- Jerk, then let it hang — Two to four sharp upward snaps with the tip low, then a full stop. The slow sink rate means the pause can be long, and that hanging fall is when a squid commits.
- Charge the glow properly — Hold a torch on the body for several seconds before each cast, then fish the shadow edge of a lit area rather than the bright middle.
- Sweep, do not strike — Squid wrap the jig with their arms. When the line stops sinking or drifts sideways, sweep into the weight and keep constant pressure all the way in.
Target Species By Region
- Southeast Asia — Candat sotong for sotong torak and sotong katak; the casting range suits long jetties and breakwaters in Terengganu, Pahang and Johor where boats hold the closer water.
- North America — Market squid from California piers, reaching past the crowded near-piling water on busy nights.
- Japan & East Asia — Shore eging for aoriika, where distance and a slow fall are the standard answer to pressured autumn marks; also fished in Korea and Taiwan.
- Australia, Middle East & Europe — Southern calamari over seagrass flats in South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania, where the fish sit well out from the rocks; European squid and cuttlefish on Mediterranean night marks.
