A 1.5" Japanese-style light game soft plastic: a slim minnow body finished with a curled grub tail. The tail is the reason to pick this one. A curl starts rolling at speeds where a paddle tail is still dead, so the lure keeps working on a dead-slow wind, on the drop, and even when hanging in the current under a jetty light. Designed to glide naturally, it encourages prolonged attacks for a higher hook-up rate, and the bright and glitter finishes keep it visible in the dark zone. Supplied 8 pieces per pack in 11 colours for 0.3 to 1.5 g jig heads.

How To Fish It

• Tada-maki (straight slow retrieve) — Rig on a 0.6 to 1.0 g head, cast, count down, then wind as slowly as you can while still feeling the tail. In moving water you can simply hold the lure in the current and let the tail work on its own.
• Lift and fall — Lift the rod tip from 9 to 11 o'clock, then lower it and let the head sink on a controlled slack line. Bites nearly always come on the fall.
• Watch the line, not the rod — Aji and rockfish inhale a light head without loading the tip. Keep the line lightly tensioned and strike when it jumps, ticks or stops sinking.
• Light line edges at night — Cast into the dark water outside a jetty or bridge light and drift the lure back through the shadow line where fish sit facing the glow.

• Southeast Asia — Small grouper, golden threadfin bream (kerisi), small barramundi (siakap), archerfish and the mixed jetty and river-mouth bag on ultralight tackle.
• North America — Crappie, bluegill, yellow perch and stocked trout in freshwater; speckled trout, whiting and small flounder on inshore micro jigs.
• Japan & East Asia — The core ajing target, horse mackerel (aji), plus mebaru and kasago on mebaring and light rock game around harbours and breakwaters.
• Australia, Middle East & Europe — Bream, whiting and flathead on ultralight estuary gear; LRF for wrasse, scad, perch and mini species off European piers; small grouper and bream from Gulf harbour walls.
