Yamai Suteki Fighter Hooks Hikari SN Jigging Hook — Made In Japan

The Hikari SN is Yamai's slow-pitch and light-jigging hook, and it sits at the opposite end of the range from the offshore patterns. Where the Maboroshi runs a longer shank and narrower gap for vertical jigging, the Hikari is short-shanked with a wide gap — the geometry that catches short takes from fish that flare at a fluttering jig rather than chase it. Yamai's stated view is that a suitable wide gap converts more bites than a short gap. The same high-carbon steel used across the Fighter range gives the point its strength.

The name points to the other feature. The hook body is carved from a flatted area and then hard-pressed, with the point pressed in the same operation. That makes it stronger and leaves flat faces on the body that flash in the water — an attracting surface built into the hook, which matters on slow-pitch rigs where the assists hang beside a fluttering jig in full view. The process is harder to heat-treat evenly, which is why the shape is specific to Yamai/Suteki. Silver finish, medium-light to light-heavy wire.

Key Features

  • Short shank with a wide gap, for slow-pitch, light and super-light jigging
  • Body carved from a flatted area and hard-pressed for strength
  • Flat pressed faces on the hook body create flash in the water
  • Special high-carbon steel produced for lure fishing
  • Silver finish; medium-light to light-heavy wire
  • Sold as bare hooks: #1/0 in packs of 7, #2/0 in packs of 5
  • Also used as a plugging hook in place of trebles

How To Rig It

  • Twin assist for slow pitch — Tie two Hikari onto a PE assist cord, points facing outward, and hang the pair at the jig head on a solid ring. This is the standard slow-pitch front rig.
  • Keep the assist short — On slow pitch the hooks should sit close to the jig head, roughly a quarter to a third of the body length. Long cords wrap the jig on the flutter, which is exactly when the bite comes.
  • Front and rear on a slow-pitch jig — Assists at both ends catch fish taking from below on the drop as well as from the front on the lift. Use fewer points if the ground is foul.
  • Super-light jigging — Single Hikari on a light cord suits 20–80 g jigs and light tackle, where a heavy assist would kill the jig's flutter.
  • Size choice — #1/0 for smaller jigs and mixed light-game targets; #2/0 where the jig is larger or the fish are running bigger.

Target Species By Region

  • Southeast Asia — Red snapper (ikan merah), grouper (kerapu), coral trout and small amberjack on slow-pitch trips over reef and wreck.
  • North America — Rockfish, lingcod, sea bass and vermilion snapper on Pacific and Gulf slow-pitch drops.
  • Japan & East Asia — The home fishery for this pattern: slow-pitch jigging for madai, akamutsu, kasago, hata and small buri, plus super-light jigging on inshore grounds.
  • Australia, Middle East & Europe — Pearl perch and snapper on Australian reefs; hamour and emperor in the Gulf; pollack, cod and coalfish on European wrecks.
