The Anglar Junkie Headlock Underspin 3.5g / 5g / 7g / 10.5g / 14g Jig Head

An underspin is a jig head with a second eyelet under the chin, from which a small blade hangs on a swivel. Wound in, the blade turns beneath the soft plastic and throws flash and low-frequency vibration ahead of the bait — a jig head and a spinner in one lure. It earns its place in dirty water, low light and on cold or pressured fish, where a plain plastic on a plain head is too quiet to be found.

The Junkie Headlock is Anglar’s answer to the one thing that ruins that lure: the plastic sliding down the shank. Where the Anglar Ball Lock Underspin uses a stepped ball collar behind the head, the Headlock runs an aggressive three-ring keeper — three raised barbed rings along the front of the shank that bite into the nose of the bait from three points instead of one. Push a paddle tail on once and it stays put through a session of casting into cover, which is what the name refers to. Everything else is shared: a precision-weighted head that falls level, a 3X-strong forged wide-gap hook in a black-nickel finish, an ultra-sharp point, and the dual-eye head that takes a line tie above and a blade, underspin component or stinger below. The blade is not supplied with the jig head.

Key Features

  • Aggressive three-ring keeper — grips the bait at three points and resists sliding, tearing and constant re-rigging
  • Dual attachment eyes: line eye on top, accessory eye below for a blade, trailer or extra hardware
  • 3X-strong forged hook wire (manufacturer’s stated strength rating) for hard-fighting fish
  • Wide-gap profile that clears thick creature baits and craws, not just slim minnows
  • Ultra-sharp point and a precision-weighted head that falls level and swims balanced
  • Eleven size and weight combinations across three hook sizes, #1/0 to #3/0

How To Fish It

  • Slow roll — the main retrieve — Cast, count down, then wind at the slowest speed that keeps the blade turning. You feel it as a light tremble in the tip; if the tremble stops you are too slow, if the lure lifts you are too fast.
  • Yo-yo over structure — Lift the rod over a weed edge or reef ledge, then drop the tip. The blade flutters on the fall and most takes happen there, so stay in touch with the line.
  • Vertical beside pylons and wrecks — The 10.5 g and 14 g heads fish straight down; short lifts spin the blade on the spot.
  • Which plastic — Paddle tails are the default; straight and split-tail minnows suit clearer water, since the blade already supplies the vibration. Match body length to hook: 3–4″ on #1/0, 4–5″ on #2/0 and #3/0.

Target Species By Region

  • Southeast Asia — Barramundi (siakap) and mangrove jack in turbid river mouths and under jetty lights; hampala barb (sebarau), peacock bass and giant snakehead (toman) in stained reservoirs; queenfish and small trevally off rock walls.
  • North America — A cold-water and dirty-water bass staple for suspended largemouth and spotted bass, plus crappie, white bass, stripers, redfish and speckled trout.
  • Japan & East Asia — Seabass (suzuki) around harbour lights and river mouths, and rockfish (mebaru, kasago) where flash pulls fish clear of structure.
  • Australia, Middle East & Europe — Barramundi and Australian bass up north; queenfish on Gulf flats; pike, perch and zander in coloured European lakes and canals.

Not every hook size is offered in every weight — pick the combination from the list above. Western numbering: #3/0 is the largest here.

Headlock or Ball Lock? Same weights, same hook sizes, same 3X wire, same dual eye. The Headlock’s three-ring keeper holds soft or expensive plastics better and is the one for timber, weed and mangrove root; the Ball Lock’s single stepped collar lets you strip a bait off and re-rig faster when changing colours. The Headlock also carries a #1/0 at 10.5 g, which the Ball Lock does not.

Recommended Pairing

  • 3.5–5 g: light spinning rod, 2500 reel, PE 0.6–1.0 braid, 10–16 lb fluorocarbon leader
  • 7–14 g: medium spinning or baitcasting rod, 3000–4000 reel, PE 1.0–2.0 braid, 20–40 lb leader
  • A slightly softer tip keeps the blade loaded at slow speeds and stops you pulling the hook on the take
  • Add a short wire trace where toothy species feed; rinse the blade and swivel after salt use
